My favourite travel destinations
I made a conscious decision quite a number of years ago to do as much travel as I could while I was still fit and healthy and not wait until retirement when health problems tend to surface! As a result I spend my relaxing time working out where to go next! So over the last 14 years my family has been fortunate enough to go to a lot of places. The following are just a few of my favourites (it was difficult to pick trust me)
Prague
We stayed here in July 2024 on our way home from 3.5 years living in the USA. This would be our first time visiting Europe during summer (we like to snow ski remember!). The architecture in Prague was amazing and so beautiful. Touring the Palace and cruising the river were highlights (despite the crowds). The absolute best bit was having dinner in a bell tower with tables placed around the bell on two levels. The waiter rang the bell (very very softly) while we were there and it was magnificent.

Boston
While we were living in the USA we were 1.5 hours south of Boston. What a great place to visit – not only for the history, which is amazing! There were trips to shows travelling from Broadway, the Cheers bar, interesting and historic architecture and the Freedom Trail. This trail is a walk (long) around Boston following a brick path that takes you past as many historic sites as they could fit on it. Totally amazing!

Nashville and Memphis
Country music and Elvis! What more can you ask for. Graceland was a lot smaller that I expected but had to be visited and the music venues in Memphis were great. My favourite part though was the whiskey distillery owned by Uncle Nearests descendants called Nearest Green Distillery. Uncle Nearest was an African slave who taught Jack Daniels all he knew about distilling. The distillery holds the Guiness World Record for the world’s longest bar. 157.89 metres long and when they have a band playing it can be 4 deep all the way around!

Italy
In particular the northern Alps of Italy. The area I go to is heritage listed and has sooo many snow ski runs that you can spend days and not go on the same run twice. I have been there about 8 times (give or take) for snow skiing and walking and absolutely love it! And I even returned after badly breaking my knee there in 2023! Amazing scenery, welcoming locals and fantastic skiing.
